Just 2 miles from the cottage door is Hadrian's Wall and within 7 miles is Birdoswald Roman Fort; in a spectacular location, it is one of the most picturesque and finest preserved Forts along the Wall. Within an hour's drive is the magnificent forest and lakeside surroundings of Kielder Water where stunning scenery, forest glades, a myriad of wildlife and a host of leisure activites await.

From Alston (18 miles) enjoy a journey on England's highest narrow-gauge railway through the beautiful scenery of the South Tyne Valley. The market town of Penrith (21 miles) is well worth a visit and within a few miles of here, a pleasant day can be spent on and around Ullswater.

If you plan a day out North of the Border, don't forget to visit the Famous Old Blacksmith's Shop and Village Centre at Gretna Green (16 miles) on the way.
